Beautiful,
traditional and complex red wines are a fantastic
accompaniment to so many foods but are also celebrated on
their own as one of the finest beverages, (barring
champagne), in the world. There are so many superb choices
in the world of red wines and from so many nations. Some are
delicate, fruity and temperamental like the elusive pinot
noir, while others are big, grand and sophisticated like the
famous cabernet sauvignon selections. Like white wines,
each is based on wine varietals and these varietals, their
terroirs (somewhereness) and a variety of
other subtle factors offer a vast world of complex flavors.
You will learn to detect the subtle nuances of smoke,
cherry, tobacco, coffee plum and black pepper. This may
sound odd to the beginner, but once your exploration of
these varietals begins to take form you’ll begin to taste
like an expert.
Like
the white wine segment, these reds are divided in to light,
medium and full bodied wines. Here is our simplified version
of the great reds of the world.
